Cardiology

Cardiology is about the study, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases of the heart. At Northwest Specialty Hospital, physicians specialize in early detection and treatment of heart ailments using the latest technology available in this region.

Minimally invasive procedures are performed in our hospital using tiny incisions, endoscopes and a miniature camera that allows your team to see the surgery on a screen. This means less stress on the body, shorter and better recovery periods, and better overall outcomes.

Inland Cardiology, next door in our Medical Office building, houses the region’s only CT 64 Scanner, the next generation of diagnostic scanners that allow the physician to see intricate details of the internal organs with a scan that lasts just a few seconds. To learn more about the CT 64, visit their website located here.

Joel R. Galloway, M.D., F.A.C.C., F.A.C.P.
Cardiac and Peripheral Vascular Intervention

Dr. Galloway is a pioneer in bringing peripheral vascular intervention to the Inland Northwest. He was the first cardiologist credentialed in all Spokane area hospitals to perform diagnostic angiography of arteries outside or away from the heart. He also was the first cardiologist credentialed to perform balloon angioplasty and stent placement to arteries outside the heart.

This practice has grown now to include multiple cardiologists in the Spokane area who now perform these services for their patients. Paving the way for cardiologists to expand their skills into the peripheral vascular arena, Dr. Galloway has carded and/or been a prominent member of multiple committees developing credentialing criteria during this time.

Dr. Galloway believes in a team approach to medical care with the involvement of patient, family and primary care physicians. Support, understanding and education are vital not only for successful treatment, but also to achieve the very best possible rehab and recovery.
